Firelighter Mini Residency

Each Firelighter Mini Residency offers the opportunity to introduce The Flames to a new area of Scotland and provide the opportunity for local people to take part in a Flames workshop and get a feel for what it’s about.

Our Flames showcase Don’t Stop Me Now and if you’re inspired after seeing that, then there’s the opportunity to come along for a relaxed, fun session, sharing stories and finding out how the Flames work.

The free Flames workshop is led by Tricky Hat artists and experienced Flames. No previous experience needed.

Following the residency, Tricky Hat will return to the area and create a unique Flames performance with local residents.

What is The Flames?

The Flames is a performance company for people over 50 across Scotland and beyond. Anyone can join, no auditions, no scripts to remember and no previous experience required. We create multi-arts performances with the participants stories, ideas, hope and dreams.

We create shows that challenge pre-conceived idea of how older people think and what they aspire to.

We have produced Flames performances across Scotland in multiple communities.  Flames do not need to be experienced in performance, and participation is free.

Flames work with Tricky Hat artists over 6 – 7 days, exploring their own stories, hopes and dreams through performance, music, film and movement.  At the end of this process, our artists frame this together and produce a show, which is participatory.

Our showcase Don’t Stop Me Now is a performance which challenges the taboos surrounding ageing, and is a celebration of the superb stories and lives lived by The Flames until this moment in time.  Using performance, film and specially composed music, this show highlights the resilience of these performers and explores their stories behind why they are such an unstoppable force.  It’s suitable for ages 14+ and does contain some swearing!
