Firelighter Mini Residencies

Our Work | March 27, 2024

The Flames is expanding its reach to people aged 50+ in rural areas of Scotland with our Firelighter Mini Residencies throughout 2024 and 2025.  Each residency includes a performance of our Flames showcase Don’t Stop Me Now, and Flames workshops for local people led by Tricky Hat artists and experienced Flames.

The purpose of each residency is to showcase The Flames to an area of Scotland we haven’t worked before, and provide the opportunity for local people to take part in Flames activity and get a feel for what it’s about.  Following the residency, Tricky Hat will return to the area and create a Flames performance with local residents.

Our showcase Don’t Stop Me Now is a performance which challenges the taboos surrounding ageing, and is a celebration of the superb stories and lives lived by The Flames until this moment in time.  Using performance, film and specially composed music, this show highlights the resilience of these performers and explores their stories behind why they are such an unstoppable force.

What is The Flames?

The Flames is Tricky Hat Productions’ multi-arts performing company for people aged 50+.  We create shows that challenge pre-conceived idea of how older people think and what they aspire to.

We have produced Flames performances across Scotland in multiple communities.  Flames do not need to be experienced in performance, and participation is free.  We welcome people from all walks of life.

Flames work with Tricky Hat artists over 6 – 7 days, exploring their own stories, hopes and dreams through performance, music, film and movement.  At the end of this process, our artists frame this together and produce a show.
