The Flames – In My Place (Japan)

Tricky Hat Productions returns to Japan in 2023 with In My Place.

Following our 2021 digital collaboration Kyo-En 京炎 where we created the film 命 Inochi, Tricky Hat worked with arts organisation NPO Gekiken in Kyoto face to face in 2023 on the creative development of In My Place, a Flames performance project with older people in Japan exploring what helps them survive, building resilience, family, moon bathing, moments of love and loss using the Tricky Hat method of working. The Flames performance was shared with industry professionals and company members in Kyoto during the visit.

Tricky Hat then travelled to Sendai to collaborate with Play Art! Sendai face to face, following our 2020 digital collaboration 炎 Honō (a project with Flames in Scotland, Japan and New Zealand over 6 months to create 11 short films). Play Art! Sendai created a live performance of HONO Flames in October 2021 @PaToNa Theatre, Sendai (Japan) supported, online, by Tricky Hat artists in Scotland. Tricky Hat worked with the Honō Flames in person in Sendai for the first time in 2023 in creative workshops, growing our community of international Flames.
