Lucas Chih-Peng Kao

Digital Artist

Lucas Chih-Peng Kao is a film maker, digital artist and collaborator who was born in Taiwan and is based in Edinburgh. His work often combines different disciplines with video including poetry, dance, installation and performance.

As a film director, he makes narrative films focusing on marginalised characters. His short films and photography have won awards and be shown at film festivals.  He is currently finishing The Air We Breathe, an ambitious sci-fi short film set in Glasgow through Short Circuit, produced by Enemy Films and Girlbitedog productions.

As a filmmaker who can shoot, edit and produce, he has been commissioned to make poetry films, dance films, 360 films, hybrid theatre film, often as lead artist with his own concepts and sometimes following the vision of choreographers or theatre directors.

His latest commission includes “Portal”, an immersive website and 360 films based on stories of Tramway in Glasgow, and “Beyond the Line” with Scottish Refugee Council. Other notable work includes “Faery Trail”, a site specific installation for children from ethnic minorities, reimagining faery tale creatures and “Fool’s Journey”, commissioned by BBC Scotland and LUX Scotland.

While working as an artist with Tricky Hat, Lucas enjoys responding to people’s life stories and working with the Director to create interesting visual images to accompany them.
